Confidential Client: Biogums Food Processing Plant

Aiming to reduce energy use intensity and CO₂ by 25%, water use by 35%, and to increase renewable energy production by 30%, while enhancing benefits to people and profitability, a global materials and manufacturing company hired Point Energy to facilitate a sustainability workshop for a biogums plant. Collaborating with company engineers and project developers, we evaluated efficiency in biogums fermentation and processing, water and wastewater, and utilities. The company’s project manager noted that while ideas had “floated around” prior to the workshop, having PEI work intensely with the company leadership in a facilitated workshop allowed the team to crystalize ideas, identifying up to 43% operational cost savings, while reducing upfront capital costs by $30 million compared to the business as usual design. We achieved this by simplifying the design, downsizing or eliminating equipment, improving process times and reducing product waste, and downsizing or eliminating a wastewater plant expansion.
